"Coherent Pluggable Optics: The Next Frontier"

Wednesday, 13th December 2023 at 11AM EDT

The coherent pluggable optics revolution is not just for hyperscalers. Communications service providers (CSPs) see coherent pluggable optics – at 400G and other data rates – as essential for driving down network costs, fostering innovation, boosting efficiency, and rearchitecting their networks. At 400G, high output power optics (0 dBm) are particularly important for CSPs. Meanwhile, 100G coherent pluggables in QSFP-28 form factors are expected to play a significant role in the “middle mile” or optical edge. And 800G coherent pluggable optics are on the near horizon.

In this special webinar, Heavy Reading will be joined by leading experts from Ciena, Effect Photonics, and Infinera to unveil key findings from Heavy Reading’s 2023 global coherent optics operator survey analyzing the future of coherent pluggable optics for CSPs, from 100G to 800G.

Topics addressed will include:

  • Operator timelines for deploying coherent pluggable optics in DWDM systems, routers/switches, and other types of network elements
  • Challenges in, and solutions for, managing pluggable optics in routers
  • Operators’ feature priorities for the newest 400G coherent pluggables
  • Primary use cases for 100G coherent pluggable optics at the edge
  • Expectations for 800G coherent pluggables in CSP networks
